For most exterior work, the drier months from about April to October are the best time to paint in Brisbane. Interiors can be painted year round. But weather affects paint every month, so the real skill is planning around humidity, dew and storms rather than just picking a season.
Why the drier months work best outside
Exterior paint needs dry surfaces and stable weather to dry and cure properly. From autumn through to early spring, Brisbane has more consecutive dry days, lower humidity and milder temperatures, so there are fewer delays and coatings behave more predictably.
Why summer is harder
The wet season, roughly November to March, brings heat, high humidity and storms. Each one causes problems:
- Rain delays work and can wash wet paint off surfaces.
- Humidity slows drying and curing, which stretches the program.
- Heat can make surfaces too hot to paint. Paint applied to a very hot wall can dry too fast and finish badly.
- Storms mean afternoon washouts, wind-blown dust and wasted days.

Cooler months have their own quirks
Winter and early spring bring cooler mornings and heavier dew, so walls can stay damp until mid-morning. That pushes the start time back. Spring winds can carry dust and debris onto wet paint, and early storms can arrive before the season is really under way.
Every paint has a recommended temperature range on its data sheet. A good painter follows it, whatever the season.
Interior painting
