December can be a smart time for commercial painting in Brisbane. Many businesses slow down, staff take leave and buildings quieten, so interior work is easier to schedule with less disruption. It isn’t right for every business, but if you plan early, the end of the year offers a real window.

1. Quieter buildings mean easier access
Offices, retail centres and mixed-use buildings often see less traffic in the weeks around Christmas. That gives painters better access to common areas, corridors, meeting rooms and even tenancies that are normally busy. Work that would need careful staging in a normal month can often move faster. Our guide to painting a commercial building while you keep trading explains how staging works when the building stays open.
2. Start the new year with a fresh look
Clients, tenants and staff notice a tired workplace. Finishing a repaint before people return in January means the year starts with a space that looks looked-after. For offices, see our office painting service, and for retail and hospitality, our interior commercial painting page.

3. Paint has time to cure and the smell clears
Interior paint needs time to dry and cure, and odour fades as it does. If work finishes while the building is quiet, the smell has usually cleared before staff are back at their desks. Low-odour, low-VOC paints help further, and good ventilation does the rest.
4. Be careful with exteriors
Here’s where December needs honesty. Brisbane’s storm and wet season starts to build in the latter part of the year, so exterior work can be delayed by weather. If your project is mainly exterior, aim to book earlier in the drier months, or plan in extra time for weather. Our guide to the best time to paint in Brisbane covers what to expect, and our article on making exterior commercial painting last explains the coatings side.

5. Combine painting with other year-end work
Year-end is also a natural time for tenancy changes, fit-outs and maintenance. Painting fits neatly with re-leasing and make-good work, and with floor and deck upgrades such as commercial floor and deck recoating. Doing it together means one program and one disruption instead of several.
6. Book early to get the crew you want
Good painting crews fill up before Christmas, and the busiest stretch is the last few weeks of the year. Start planning in October or November. That leaves time for a site visit, a written scope, any approvals and a program that suits your shutdown dates.

Things to watch for
- Your shutdown dates, and any building management rules over the holiday period
- Supplier and delivery closures that could affect materials
- Committee or owner approvals, especially in strata schemes
- Weather delays for any exterior work
- Staff who’ll still be on site and areas they need access to
For strata schemes, approvals often take longer than the painting itself, and our guide to planning a body corporate repaint explains how to plan for them.
Is December right for your business?
It probably is if your building quietens over the holidays, the work is mostly interior and you can plan ahead. It’s less suited if you’re a busy retailer in the lead-up to Christmas, or if the job is mostly exterior and can’t absorb delays. If you’re unsure, we’ll talk it through.
