You can paint a house in Brisbane’s summer heat, but you have to plan around it. Paint applied to a hot surface can dry too fast and finish badly, and afternoon storms can wreck a fresh coat. The fix is to work with the weather: start early, follow the sun around the building and always check the paint’s temperature limits.
Why heat causes problems
Paint needs time to flow and level before it dries. On a very hot wall, the surface dries almost instantly, which can leave brush marks, roller lines and poor adhesion. High humidity, on the other hand, slows drying and leaves paint tacky for longer. Brisbane summers often bring both.
Check the label
Every paint has a recommended application temperature range and guidance on surface temperature. It’s on the tin and in the data sheet. If the day or the wall is outside it, don’t paint. A good crew checks this rather than guessing.
Work with the sun
- Start early, while walls are cool and the morning light is soft
- Follow the shade around the house instead of painting sun-baked walls
- Stop before surfaces heat up in the afternoon
- Keep an eye on the forecast, especially for storms
Storm season risks
