Short on time? These seven tips will help you pick a commercial painter in Brisbane without getting burned. For the longer version, see our guide on how to choose a commercial painter.
1. Check the licence
Ask for the QBCC licence number and look it up on the QBCC register. It takes two minutes and rules out a lot of problems.
2. Ask for proof of insurance
You want certificates of currency for public liability and workers’ compensation, not a verbal promise. Our post on what insurance a painter needs explains the difference.
3. Look for relevant experience
A painter who’s done buildings like yours will already know the pitfalls. Ask for similar projects and references.
4. Get a written scope
A proper quote lists the preparation, the paint system, the areas covered and the access method. If it’s a single line with a total, ask for more. Our guide to what to ask before signing a commercial painting quote shows what to look for.
5. Ask about safety
Safety records and site procedures tell you how a contractor works. Look for a safe work method statement and safety prequalification, such as our CM3 certification.
6. Plan around your business
Ask how the work will be staged so you can keep trading. Our piece on painting while you keep trading shows what a good plan includes.
7. Don’t choose on price alone
The cheapest quote often leaves out preparation or access, and that’s where problems start. Compare like for like, then decide.
Seven checks, one good decision
Run through these and you’ll weed out most of the risky options. See our commercial painting services or request a quote.
