Yes. On almost every building repaint, residents stay living in their units the whole time. A well run job is staged so only a few balconies or one area is closed at a time, and residents get notice before the crew reaches them.
What residents can expect
- Notice first. A notice before their zone starts, saying which days the balcony needs to be clear.
- A clear balcony. Pot plants, furniture and washing moved in for the days the balcony is being washed and painted.
- Windows closed on wash days. High pressure cleaning means windows and doors need to stay shut.
- Crew outside the window. On rope access jobs a painter may pass outside on the ropes. Curtains or blinds help with privacy.
- Drop zones. Areas under the work are fenced off, and some paths or car spaces may be closed for a day or two.
- Low odour paint inside. Internal hallways are usually done in a low odour acrylic.
How rope access helps
With no scaffold around the building, residents keep their views, light and security, and most balconies stay open most of the time. At The Establishment in Kangaroo Point the balconies are done zone by zone so only a small group is closed at once.
Pets, working from home and access
Tell the building manager early if you work from home, have pets or need help moving things off the balcony. A good painter will work the program around it where they can.
