A tired office does quiet damage. Scuffed walls near the door handles, ceilings going a bit yellow, that one meeting room that’s been due for a paint since before half the team started. Nobody complains out loud. But clients clock it, and so do staff. Repainting isn’t the most exciting line on a facilities budget, yet it’s one of the cheapest ways to make a workplace feel like somebody actually cares about it.
Here’s the thing though. Painting an office that’s still running every day is nothing like painting an empty house. You can’t turn up at 8am, throw down drop sheets and start rolling. People are on calls. There’s IT gear bolted to every desk. And someone always, always forgets to move their second monitor.
Good office painters work around you, not the reverse
Most of our office work happens after hours or across a weekend. Some clients would rather we take one floor or one wing at a time so the business never fully stops. Either way, we map out the access, the no-go zones and the timing with you before a single brush comes out. If your painter isn’t asking how your week actually runs, that’s a red flag. Have a look at how we approach commercial painting and interior commercial work so you know what to expect.
Low-odour paint matters more than people expect
Water-based low-VOC paints have come a long way. They cure faster and the smell clears out quickly, which means your team isn’t sitting in fumes on Monday morning with the windows jammed open. For an occupied office we’ll almost always steer you toward these. It’s worth asking any painter what they’re actually putting on your walls, because the cheap stuff cuts corners exactly where you don’t want it cut.
Colour isn’t just decoration
Colour changes how a room feels to work in. Soft neutrals keep things calm and make a space read as bigger, while a single bolder wall in a breakout area or reception can give the place some personality without going overboard. If you’re not sure, our colour consultation service exists for exactly this. Personally I’d rather a client spend ten minutes getting the colour right than repaint in eighteen months because the open-plan area ended up feeling like a hospital corridor.
Don’t skip the bits everyone forgets
Walls get all the attention. But ceilings, skirtings, door frames and the kitchenette are usually what make an office look genuinely refreshed rather than half-done. A patchy ceiling above freshly painted walls just draws the eye straight to the problem. We’ll flag these in the quote so there are no surprises later.
What does it cost?
Every office is different, so I’m not going to throw a number at you that turns out to be wrong. Floor area, ceiling height, how much prep the surfaces need, whether we’re working nights, and access all move the price. If you want to understand what drives the figure before you ask anyone for a quote, our guide on what commercial painting costs in Brisbane breaks it down honestly.
When you’re ready, get in touch for a quote and we’ll come and look at the actual space. That’s the only way to give you a real number.
